The Stanley Avenue Stalwarts were seen hoisting gazebos over the roof to position them strategically around the central island - with pride of place being given to the two most important areas - the food and the music.
The lashing rain did nothing to stop the valiant efforts of the men of the road, who ignoring the fact that they were soaked through completed the construction of the Stanley Avenue Jubilee party venue.
The Ladies of the road, not wanting to be outdone by the men, added finishing touches of balloons, flags and other Jubilee regalia before disappearing into their respective houses to arm themselves with the edible results of their hours of labour.
The food came out and kept on coming - men, women and children were not spared as all available hands were accosted by the food train. Reams of clingfilm must surely have been used to keep all of that food dry!
There were sandwiches, wraps, salads (because we all love a good salad when we are eating alfresco in the pouring rain!), scones with cream and jam, cupcakes, sausage rolls and the all important alcohol.
On the guest list were some royal faces, the local police and even teenagers!
All ages enjoyed the festivities and even the rain couldn't stop the disco divas from strutting their stuff on the dancefloor (more from them later
Thanks to Pat for organising the event and of course everyone from The Avenue and their friends and family who contributed their time and effort to making the day a big success. We all came away with a certificate and in some cases, a sore head and soggy pants!
